The Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education (JADE) was the successor in 1966 to the Bulletin of the Association for the Advancement of Instruction about Alcohol and Narcotics (1953-1966), and the Journal of Alcohol (1966-1968).
The Bulletin began its publication under Dr. Raymond McCarthy, Yale University Center for Alcohol Studies. In 1960, Dr. Robert Russell of Southern Illinois University became the editor of the Bulletin and continued to edit the Bulletin, the Journal of Alcohol and then JADE through 1985.
Dr. Gerald Globetti of the University of Alabama served as Editor from 1985 through 1993. In 1993 there were Co-editors, Dr. David E. Corbin and Dr. Richard Stacy from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 1998 Dr. Manoj Sharma replaced Dr. Stacy as Co-editor. In 2000 Dr. Sharma became Editor and he continues to serve in this capacity.
In 1962 the Michigan Council on Alcohol Problems under Robert L. Hammond, Executive Director, became Publisher of the Bulletin, then the Journal of Alcohol and then JADE and continued publishing JADE until 1993 when the American Alcohol and Drug Information Foundation, an IRS 501(c)(3) organization, formally became Publisher.
JADE’s distinguished roster of Journal Executives began with Dr. Robert Russell (1960 – 1993); continued with Allan B. Rice II (1993 – 2003); Robert L. Hammond (2003 – 2006) and Dr. Dennis D. Bryde (2006 – 2012). In early 2013, Dr. Vernon B. Smith, JADE’s Vice-President of the Board also became the JADE Journal Executive.
